Indigenous Day at Coolum State High School
Last week the Year 6 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students were invited to participate in an end of year cultural celebration at Coolum State High School. Patti Williams, Coolum State High School's Indigenous Education officer, ran the event and introduced the students to Caleb, a proud Parrdarrama man, who took the students on a journey of cultural connection.
The students were emersed in local Gubbi Gubbi Dreamtime stories by Uncle Lyndon Davis, before joining Caleb in a guided activity on learning how to throw a boomerang. They also had the opportunity to create ochre and paint themselves in celebration of the day.
Amongst all the fun, Patti also had the opportunity to take us on a tour of the school in preparation for next year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time and wish to thank Patti and all the staff at Coolum State High School for welcoming us for this 'deadly' occasion.
